StudyFetch has a good idea at its core: upload your course material and get an AI tutor, flashcards and quizzes built from it. Most people who go looking for an alternative liked that idea. What they didn't like was running out.
Third-party reviews in 2026 put the free plan at roughly 10 chats with its AI tutor, 1 study set and 2 uploads, with audio and video uploads on paid plans only. That's a demo. It's not enough to get through a unit, let alone a semester.
So the question is really: which tools do the same job with a free plan you can study on?
What to look for
Three things, in this order:
- It works from your files. The whole point is studying your lecturer's version, not a generic one.
- It asks you questions. Chatting with an AI feels productive. Answering questions is what builds memory. The research on that.
- The free plan survives a real week. Ideally a real subject.
The options
The Study Mill
The closest match to what StudyFetch is going for, and the one I build. Upload a week's slides, PDF, Word doc, notes, a photo of your handwriting or a lecture recording, and you get short lessons, flashcards, a quiz with written answers that get marked, a tutor you can ask, and Walk & Learn audio that teaches the week back and quizzes you out loud.
The free plan covers 2 whole classes, with as many weeks as you need. Pro (A$7.99 a month, half price with a .edu email) adds unlimited classes, exam mode and cram sheets.
NotebookLM
If what you mainly used StudyFetch for was chatting with your PDFs, NotebookLM does that brilliantly and for free. It won't quiz you or track what you're forgetting, so pair it with something that does. More on that.
Knowt
A strong free flashcard app that makes cards from your notes and PDFs. AI use is capped monthly on free. Knowt alternatives.
Quizlet
Mostly useful for its huge library of shared decks. The AI features sit on Quizlet Plus.
Anki
No AI, no limits, best long-term memory scheduling there is. You make the cards. AI alternatives to Anki.

If you're going to pay anyway
StudyFetch's paid plans start around US$7.99 a month. That's not unreasonable. Before you pay for any of these, though, try the free plans side by side with the same lecture. Whichever one you open again the next day is the right one.
Try one lecture
Upload the lecture you used in StudyFetch and compare what you get. Free, about a minute.
