The Study Mill is a study app that turns your own course material into flashcards, quizzes, lessons and audio study sessions. This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read rather than to be legally impressive.
We do not collect payment card numbers. Card details are entered directly with Stripe and never reach our servers.
Material you upload is used to generate study content for you. It is not used to train any AI model, is not shared with other users, and is not sold.
To generate that content we send the relevant text to Anthropic's Claude API, and for audio features to ElevenLabs for speech synthesis and transcription. These providers process the material to return a result and do not use it to train their models under the terms we use them on. Flashcard illustrations, where enabled, are generated via Google's Gemini image API.

The Send to Study Mill Chrome extension reads the page you are on only when you click its button, to find links to slides and readings. It does not run in the background, does not record your browsing history, and does not access pages you have not asked it to. The only things it stores are your Study Mill connection token and your last-used class and week.
We use a small number of first-party cookies: one to keep you signed in, one recording how you first arrived, and one for invite links. Analytics cookies are set by PostHog. We do not run advertising cookies or third-party ad trackers.
You can access and correct your details in Settings at any time. You can delete your account from Settings, which permanently removes your uploaded material and everything generated from it. If you would prefer a copy of your data first, or want deletion handled for you, email us and we will do it.
If you are in the EU, UK or another region with equivalent law, you have the usual rights of access, correction, erasure, portability and objection. The same email address handles all of them.
We keep your material for as long as your account exists. Deleting your account deletes it. Passwords are stored hashed with bcrypt and never in plain text; traffic is encrypted in transit.
No service can promise perfect security, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise. If we ever discover a breach affecting your data, we will tell you.
The Study Mill is intended for students aged 16 and over. If you believe a younger child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top and notify signed-in users in the app. Continuing to use The Study Mill after a change means accepting the updated policy.
