Physics exams are designed so that a formula sheet does not save you. The questions are unfamiliar by construction; what transfers is knowing which principle applies.

Multi-part problems

Part (a) sets up the system, and each later part builds on it. Getting (a) wrong can cost the whole question, so the setup deserves more time than it usually gets.

Conceptual questions

No numbers — "what happens to the period if you double the mass?". These reward understanding proportionality rather than plugging into a formula.

Derivations

Start from a stated principle and reach a result. Marks are for the logical chain, so stating assumptions explicitly is worth doing.

Flashcard

A block slides down a frictionless incline. Which forces do work on it, and which do not?

Gravity does positive work — it has a component along the displacement. The normal force does zero work: it acts perpendicular to the surface, and therefore perpendicular to the motion, and W = F·d·cosθ is zero when θ = 90°.

Quiz question

A ball is thrown straight up at 20 m/s. How long until it reaches its highest point? (g = 9.8 m/s²)

≈2.0 s. At the peak the velocity is momentarily zero, so from v = u + at: 0 = 20 − 9.8t, giving t = 20/9.8 = 2.04 s. Note the peak is defined by v = 0, not by acceleration being zero — gravity acts throughout.

Physics study app — common questions

Can it explain why a formula works, not just when to use it?

That is the main thing it is for in physics. Learn cards give you the physical meaning behind each relationship — what is actually conserved, what the proportionality implies — and you can keep asking follow-up questions until it makes sense. Knowing why is what lets you pick the right equation for a problem you have not seen.

Will it generate problems similar to my problem sets?

Yes. Upload the sheet and you get variations at the same difficulty rather than the same questions returned, which is what you need once you already have the model answers.

Does it work for maths-heavy topics like electromagnetism?

Yes, though the useful split is that it is strongest on the conceptual scaffolding — what the field means, why the boundary condition is what it is — and you should still grind the vector calculus by hand. Most students find the concepts are the bottleneck and the algebra is just practice.

Can I revise physics without sitting at a desk?
